There is no question that 2017 was one of the best years in gaming that we have had in a while. Titles like legend of Zelda: Breath of The Wild, Persona 5, Nier Automata, Horizon Zero Down, Mario Odyssey brought back the heart of gaming. 2017 is one for the books. Now that the year has passed, we all have many titles to look forward to within the new year. Here are a few games we are looking forward to.

Monster Hunter World

If you missed out on the beta, Monster hunter world is a game you don’t want to miss out on. The game’s set release is for January 26,2018. The franchise with 13 years on its belt is no stranger to the gaming world. Monster Hunter world features breathtaking environments and graphics. Your objective is to hunt or capture monsters that roam within the environments you explore. Tackle hunts for various creatures solo, or co -ep with a 4-player team. The game features various weapons and combat styles to choose from. you can purchase weapons and armor, or customize with items and spoils you find along the ways. If you’re new to the franchise this game is going to be a great introduction into the world of Monster Hunter.

The last of Us 2

The game is one of the most anticipated games of the year. The way we left off with Joel and Ellie in the first game, fans are anxious to see what is in store for us in this continuation. Not much is known about their new chapter of adventures. We don’t have much to go off other than the few trailers, but Naughty Dog has teased by saying theme will be center around ideas of hate and anger. From the haunting trailers we have seen so far, we know they will deliver.  The game has no official release date for this year yet.

Kingdom Hearts 3

We know…. we know. After a decade of waiting, fans have been assured by Square Enix that we can expect a release this year. It has been a long wait and it’s only by the never-ending grace and patience the fans have that there is still any excitement for the release of Kingdom Hearts 3. We can expect new worlds, new characters, a vastly improved combat system from the Disney Square Enix collaboration we all fell in love with 10 years ago.

God of War

God of War (Dad of War as I call it) offers a fresh new story with a take on Norse mythology. All previous games were based on Greek mythology. Kratos, now facing the trials of his role as a father, acts as mentor and protector to his son Atreus. All while battling and mastering the rage that has driven him for years. Throughout the game, players will be able to visit some of the nine realms of Norse mythology. Action adventure with a story that pulls heartstrings? I’m down!

Mega Man 11

Mega Man fans rejoice! We’ve seen mega man featured in fighting games, but it’s been years since we have had a Mega Man game. Just in time for the 30th anniversary. The action platform game by Capcom, features 3D polygonal characters and environments and is slated for PC, PS4, Xbox One and Switch platforms in Q4 of 2018.

Dragon Ball Fighterz

Goku and the squad must fight a new battle against Android 16 and an army of super androids designed to fight like them. The story is split into three chapters. Each following the perspectives of Goku, Frieza and Android 18. The upcoming 2D fighting game developed by Arc Systems takes inspiration from many different fighting games, adding its own unique touch. Like in Marvel vs Capcom, the player can form a team of three characters. the player will have a vast selection of 20 characters to choose from. the team can perform assist moves, along with simultaneous attacks and combos.  It includes various special abilities, and combos and allows players to gather dragon balls as the fight progresses to perform special moves. Dragon Ball Fighterz drops January 26, 2018.

Detroit: Become Human

I was first introduced to this game upon viewing the trailer at E3 2 years ago. I’m all for decision based games where the outcome is uncertain and different with each choice. Detroit: Become Human revolves around three androids: Kara, Connor, and Markus. The characters may survive or die based on the choices the player makes which shape the story and the outcome. There is no game over, as the story continues without a character if they die. Players will be able to rewind to certain points if they are unsatisfied and reshape decisions made. The more information collected, the greater chance of success.  The release will be sometime between Q1/Q2 of 2018.
