We out here y’all! Netflix has picked up a show about 7-year-old Black child with super powers. Based off the comic book and short film created by Dennis Liu, Raising Dion centers around the story of Nicole Reese, a Black single mother raising a 7-year-old child with multiple constantly changing super powers. The story is told from the parent’s perspective, who unlike her son, does not have powers. Nicole must keep her son’s gifts a secret. With the help of her late husband’s best friend Pat, they protect Dion from those out to exploit him; while figuring out the origin of his abilities.
The show was green-lit by Netflix for ten episodes each running an hour long. Along with Dennis Liu, notable Black Panther star Michael B. Jordan will have a supporting role. Liu stated
“I started this project many years ago, because I wanted to see more diverse representation on film and television and I’m excited to partner with Netflix, who I know shares that commitment. More than ever, we need more stories told from different points of view and my hope with Raising Dion is to create a cinematic experience for all families that will lift your spirits and make you laugh and cry.”
We have always expressed how much representation matters here at PBN, and we can’t wait to watch the show when it hits Netflix.
